Anton’s passion for martial arts started at 7 years old and continues today, racking up over 35 years of training.  He founded No Quarter as a martial arts-focused gym in 2011 and it's a proudly independent business.

 

Anton is a striking specialist with a proven background in boxing, kickboxing and other various martial arts.  He is a professional in this field and was until recently employed as the head competition coach for the University of Sydney Taekwondo club.
Anton trains people from all walks of life. From the average Joe or Joanne looking to looks a few kilos to people competing in combat sports.

Anton is nationally recognised boxing and kick boxers trainer that coaches competitors spanning from amateur to elite level.

RICHARD HEAPS

MUAY THAI STYLE KICKBOXING, BASIC TO ADVANCED TECHNIQUES

After 5 years of training with Champion Thai fighters in New Zealand and Thailand, 37 fights and 28 wins, Richard has a lot of experience to share.

Richard took up Muay Thai in his home town of Wellington, New Zealand, trying to lose weight and get in shape.

 

After losing 10kg and punching someone in the face for the first time in his first 3 months, Richard quickly became addicted to the sport and began training seriously for his first fight in April 2011.

 

Since then he has fought 8 times in New Zealand and 29 times in Thailand. During his most recent stay in Thailand he fought, on average, once every 10 days and appeared on TV twice. Richard has only ever had Thai trainers, so his style and technique is very different from traditional western kickboxing found in Australia.

 

Outside of fighting, Richard has degrees in Physics and Economics and has worked as a teacher, bar manager and as a technical advisor for a number of large companies. He is very well practiced at breaking complicated concepts down into their basic parts to enhance his students learning.

 

Richard also has a thing for Superman memorabilia, saying “If you’re going to look up to someone, they should be imaginary so you will never be disappointed” and is often seen around the gym wearing the logo.

 

JAY ABADY

Jay's passion for sport began with a red ribbon for athletics at his very first athletics carnival. He was furious he didnt get the blue and thus began a compulsion around health, fitness and competition that has carried through to today.

 

From European Handball to rock-climbing he's said yes to having a go at every sport possible, though his favourites are boxing and football.

 

Jay works for Men's Health magazine which keeps him submersed in all aspects of health, training and nutrition.

Though he's surrounded by motivation daily the one piece of advice he thinks is most important is to "be better than yesterday."

JOHN POLESSO

POWER LIFTING, STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING, BASIC TO ADVANCED TECHNIQUES

John teaches the power & strength training class at No Quarter on Tuesday evenings. View our timetable here.

John posesses a diverse sporting background spread over more than two decades.

 

He believes in focusing on the basics, including barbell movements to build strength, power and improve overall conditioning.  John's classes focus on proper technique and mastery of the basics, before progression to advanced exercises.  

 

John loves putting people through tough workouts that build physical and mental strength.  If you're new to strength training and want to ensure you're getting started with a proper foundation, John's class is the one to take.

A yoga practitioner for more than 15 years and a certified instructor in Hatha Yoga, AcroYoga and Yin Yoga, May is passionate about movement of the body and building strength with fluidity and grace.

 

Having spent 18 years in the corporate world and now a full-time remedial massage therapist and yoga teacher, she believes in balancing the busy-ness of every day life with the peace and calm within ourselves.
